*Low level units are great for efficient map-clearing
*Magic University allows heroes to learn all 4 Magic secondary skills for 2000 Gold each.
*The Aurora Borealis is the best Grail building, handing out all spells
Weaknesses
*Magma Elementals are the worst level 5 unit
*Energy Elementals are below average
*Many units have vulnerabilities to certain spells
The Fortresses stand at the edge of swamps. Beastmasters and Witches are their inhabitants. The army of Fortress consists of deadly swamp beasts specially trained for battles. The Fortress is commonly considered a weak town. In fact, its cheap and fast building tree, the fast early scouts, and the very good specialties of its creatures make them a formidable opponent. It is not the town for beginners, however.
*With a two-hex moat and several buildings which increase the stats of the defending hero, a Fortress castle is a real pain to attack.
*The Mighty Gorgon

Weaknesses
*Highest level Mage Guild is 3.

*Creatures are weak (in sod some stats for Lizardman/Lizard Warrior and Serpent Fly/Dragon Fly were increased, but overall they are still relatively weak. In wake of gods, this can be fixed by use of some settings making Fortress creatures better)

*With two relatively weak fliers (lvl 3 with 20 hp, lvl 6 with 70 (!) hp) and one very weak shooter, the Fortress has a very hard time invading other towns properly. So Expert Ballistics, Expert Teleport and/or Expert Earthquake are a must.
* Escape Tunnel: it´s great to be able to retreat from a siege so you don´t lose your best hero this way.
* Cyclopes and Cyclops Kings can attack castle walls with their ranged attack. This is a vastly underestimated special that can tip the scale in an attacking force´s favor very quickly, especially when combined with a fast initiative-giving unit and Haste (Expert level for best effect). High Morale (to enable multiple shots) is also extra useful for them (the spell for this is Mirth) and if you have the room in your army, every additional stack gives additional shots at the wall! A stack of 1 Cyclops King 'sieges' as good as a stack of 1000 would.
* Ancient behemoths win a 1vs1 against most 7'th level creatures.

Weaknesses
* Slow units, the fastest is the Thunderbird with a Speed of 11. Ancient Behemoths has 9.
* Magic, Mage Guild is limited to level 3.

* Only one flying unit, namely the Thunderbird.
Overview
Overlords and Warlocks build Dungeons as outposts for endless wars for power and wealth. Similarly minded creatures are treated as allies, others are enslaved by them. The forces of Dungeon have various ranged attack units and strong warriors, which are capable of quickly disrupting the enemy's plans.

Although Dungeon is quite expensive, it has serious magic and powerful troops, and it seems that these strengths make Dungeon one of the most popular towns in Heroes III. The strongest creature of Dungeon, the Black Dragon, has become a symbol of the Heroes series since it first appeared in Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars. This great beast is indeed an enemy to be feared.
Overview
Various undead creatures rule in Necropolis. Their allies are Necromancers and Death Knights. Many of the Necropolis' troops have the abilities to weaken their enemies. This can give them an advantage over an equal or even a stronger opponent.

Necropolis is one of the most powerful towns in homm, mainly because of the Necromancers' ability to raise dead enemies as skeletons, quickly making a host of them. In addition, Necropolis has strong magic, a very nice complement to the hordes of undead.
Creatures native to the Necropolis town are all undead, which has a number of advantages and disadvantages. The Necropolis has generally weaker lower level units, mainly the walking dead, wights, wraiths, and vampires. This isn't that important as skeletons are available in large numbers, and Necropolis is a powerhouse in middle-upper level units. Vampire lords, liches, power liches, black knights, and dread knights are all extremely powerful for their respective levels. Bone dragons and ghost dragons are not the best final level unit but are still quite effective. Necropolis creatures have many abilities that weaken their opponents.
*Tamika
*Straker
*Vokial

Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
*A variety of good heroes to choose from
*A variety of strategies available
*Unaffected by negative Morale
*Unaffected by Mind spells
*Necromancy is a powerful secondary skill that only Necropolis heroes can utilize effectively
*There are number of artifacts that are only useful to Necropolis
*Both Necropolis hero types begin with a spell book

Weaknesses
*Walking Dead and Zombies slow armies down
*Only one ranged attacker Lich/Power Lich
*Unaffected by positive Morale
*Difficulties in the early game, where your slow level 1 and level 2 creatures are not the best to conquer mines and explore the map
*Bone and Ghost Dragons are near the bottom of the Level 7's in strength and usefulness

Strategies
If you can upgrade your Estate early, you should do so. The Vampire Lords are one of the best 4th-level creatures in the game. Since they draw life from their enemy, and resurrect themselves, they can be used to solely take out large numbers of low-level creatures. Combine with "counterstrike" to get even better effect.

"The month of the Hobgoblin" and the like are Necromancers' wet dream. Just take your strongest hero and stockpile Skeletons.

The Necropolis has only a few units they can rely on, the others can wait with being bought and, in time, even be ignored. The reliable units are: Skeleton Warriors, Vampire Lords, Power Liches and Dread Knights.

You get Skeleton Warriors only if your ranks are full at the *end* of combat and if you have a stack of Skeleton Warriors and no stack of Skeletons. The downpart is that you get less than if you'd get normal Skeletons (2/3rds as many). Therefore, if it is logistically managable, it would be better to try and get a horde of normal Skeletons first, and then upgrade them at a Necropolis or Hill Fort for the last battle.

If there are any Level 1 dwellings nearby, recruit them and take them to the Necropolis. If you have a Skeleton Transformer, you're practically getting free skeletons, and even free Skeleton warriors if there is a Hill Fort close by too.

Be on the lookout for Hovels. Peasants come free and, though extremely slow and non-lethal, once inside a Skeleton Transformer they gain a 600% increase in health, up to 300% increase in damage, among other bonuses. Since Hovels spawn 25 peasants each each week and there are usually 4 or more Hovels close to each other one can gain an extra 100 or so Skeletons each week. Have a hero be a collector of these benefits.

Overview
Inferno towns appear in the regions of Erathia where demons rise from hell to the surface. Demoniacs and Heretics managed to form an alliance with the inhabitants of Inferno. The Inferno troops are great in hand-to-hand combat. The main flaw of the Inferno army is the lack of shooters, but it's compensated by its relatively fast build tree and the high damage output of its creatures. The fast Efreet Sultans, the terrible Devils, and the Pit Lords with their demon-herding ability make them a serious force.

Inferno deals with everything that is fire. Although often considered a weak town, Inferno still has some nasty advantages. Put simply, Inferno isn't bad at all, it's just more difficult to play with.
* Pit Lord's Demon summon ability: Lets you horde demons.
* Efreet Sultans are very good at clearing a map: they have speed, damage, and enough hp. They can also be used in a Dracageddon combo.

Weaknesses
*Arch Devils are very expensive.
*Lacking in the Hero department.
*Imps and Familiars are incredibly weak first level units, and have no redeeming features save their speed (the Familiars' channel ability is hardly noticable).
*The Inferno produces the least hit points per week of all the towns.

Strategies
The Castle Gate is an enormous advantage. Use it. Often. One of the good things about it is that you only have to upgrade all the creature buildings in ONE town, just use a backup hero to teleport between the different towns to pick up creatures, then teleport to upgrade them all at once at the upgraded town.

Another good thing about the Castle Gate is that one hero can be used to defend all towns.

Magic Heroes (Wizards)
The following Wizards are the magic heroes of the Tower town:

*Aine
*Astral
*Cyra
*Serena
*Solmyr
*Theodorus

Might Heroes (Alchemists)
The following Alchemists are the might heroes of the Tower town:

*Fafner
*Iona
*Josephine
*Neela
*Piquedram
*Rissa
*Thane
*Torosar

Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
*Powerful units
*Three ranged units and two fliers
*Magic themed town
**Library allows extra spells for each level of the Mage Guild
**Both hero types begin with a Spell Book
**Magi/Arch magi decreases spell cost by 2
*Good support heroes, with many Scholars

Weaknesses
*Expensive units
*Requires lots of valuable resources
*Relatively slow town (fastest troops move at speed 11)
*Fairly poor pool of potential main heroes

Strategies
Since the Tower town has three ranged units, it is excellent at defending cities. The only problem is against fast and flying attackers, such as Dragons, Angels etc. If the defending hero has expert Slow, use it. If not, use expert Haste.

A good thing is to upgrade your Workshop early, then move around the map and pick up Gremlins for free and upgrade them at your town, this way you get massive firepower very fast. Combine Master Gremlins with the relatively fast gargoyles to throw Haste on the Master Gremlins to take out lots of monsters early.

Giants are not much use until you upgrade them to Titans, which are the best ranged unit in the game, have no Melee Penalty, and generally kick butt.

Additional Information
Alignment: Good

Native Terrain: Snow

J R rates this town's music 3.5/5
The gold dragons are nice lvl 7 monsters. dendroids and battle dwarves are most of the time useless, but it really turns the tide if a land battle is going bad. The grand elf nice shooter, but often blinded by al. The centaur captains and unicorns are decent, but wont be too much of use in a siege

Alignment: Good

This article is about the town type Castle. For the structure, see Castle (structure)

The Castle is a Good alignment town, focused more on might than on magic, with balanced offensive and defensive capabilities.
Overview
The Castle is the homeland of Clerics and Knights. Most of the town's guard are men-at-arms, but some say that Castles have formed an alliance with griffins and are under the protection of angels. With two ranged attack troops and two flying creatures, the Castle's army can easily overtake and defeat the enemy.

In Heroes III, the Castle plays the role of a traditional "good" town formed mostly of humans. It is a nice, well-balanced town with strong creatures.
Biography
Originally Adela only contributed her skills prior to battles. If she could not convince her commander to avoid a fight, she would at least prepare a blessing for the troops as they entered combat. She was given command of the Whitestone garrison.
<br style="clear:both;" />
Special Ability
;Bless: Adela's proficiency in the Bless spell allows her to cast it with increased effect, based on her level compared to the level of the target (greater bonus on weaker units).

Bless Mechanics
Adela's bless specialty increases the damage of a unit using the following equation: Base Damage * 0.03 * Hero Level / Unit Level. This extra damage is in addition to the bless spell. For example: at level 18, Adela will provide a 54% damage bonus to Halberdiers, 27% to Marksmen, 18% to Royal Griffins, 13.5% to Crusaders, 10.8% to Zealots, 9% to Champions, and 7.1% to Archangels.
