I believe the latest hota patch changed the in-game display of these difficulties to the chess names. :I have the latest versions of both HotA and the HD mod as of today (1.7.2 and 5.5R42 respectively) and I'm not seeing chess names anywhere. And regardless, if you for example [[The_Life_Guard#Pandora's_Boxes|here]], you'll see a note saying ''"ONLY applies on [[Difficulty level|easy, medium, and hard difficulties]]"'' not "pawn, knight, and rook". Furthermore, even if the chess names do appear somewhere, they are redundant with the icons. I think just about everyone can recognize a chess pawn graphic as representing a chess pawn.
