He was captured and imprisoned by the [[barbarian]]s and eventually rescued by {{Hn|Bidley|0=}}. In gratitude for being saved, he told [[Bidley]] the location of [[Island of the Vengeful Serpent]] - the resting place of the {{An|Horn of the Abyss}}. But the truth was, he hoped that the pirate would die. [[Bidley]] (and maybe others) believed him to be a {{Cn|Mage}}.

[[All Hands on Board!|Later]], after finally getting the [[Horn of the Abyss]], Bidley was asked to give it to [[Gavin Magnus]] by {{Hn|Solmyr|0=}}. He quickly suspected Xanthor of telling the [[Wizards]] about the Horn.

Xanthor (along with [[Marcus Finch]]) is a professor at the [[University of Erathia]] and the narrator of a few legendary accounts of events around [[Antagarich]] during the events of {{homm3}}. According to these stories, he is the nephew of {{Hn|Agar|0=}} and has 'little training in the mystical arts'.
