Story
A high noble Lord of Erathia, Lord Haart belonged to the highest elite military army of Erathia, known as the Royal Erathian Military Command, where he served under orders of Gen. Morgan Kendal and King Nicolas Gryphonheart, proving to them his "loyalty" to the empire of Erathia in the past. In roe, Lord Haart was involved in the necromancers' plot to poison King Nicholas Gryphonheart and raised as a Lich. Later, when the Lich King escapes the control of the necromancers and they seek Erathia's help to destroy the monster they created, Lord Haart is called upon, unaware that his betrayal of the crown is known to Nicholas' heir, Catherine. He is brought along only so that the king may avenge himself before being put to rest.

Morgan Kendal]] and King Nicolas Gryphonheart, proving to them his "loyalty" to the empire of Erathia in the past. In roe, Lord Haart was part of the necromancers to poison King Nicolas Gryphonheart and raise him as a Lich. Later, when the Lich King escapes the control of the Necromancers and they seek Erathia's help to destroy the monster they created, Lord Haart is called upon, unaware that his betrayal of the crown is known to Nicolas' heir, Catherine. Some time after his death, Lord Haart is raised as a Death Knight. His story continues under .
In Restoration of Erathia, Lord Haart is only available as a knight. In Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death, Lord Haart is usually only available as a death knight and his place as a knight is taken by Sir Mullich.

In Maker of Sorrows, it is mentioned that he is the owner of a powerful sword built by Galen.
Bugged Haart
Even though the knight Lord Haart is not usually available to play in the expansions, a bug exists where he will appear on any map where the mapmaker has in some way edited the Heroes tab under Map Specifications in the Map Editor. In these cases Lord Haart will replace Sir Mullich in the starting hero selection but both heroes will be purchaseable from taverns in game. Lord Haart is still not available to place as a wandering hero or in a prison within the Map Editor itself. Nor is it possible to change the properties of this hero as he does not appear in the Heroes tab.
Lord Haart as he appears in Heroes I.
Even after undoing any changes to the Heroes tab in the editor, Lord Haart remains and Sir Mullich is unchoosable as a starting hero.

Availability
An easy way to undo this bug is to close and reopen the Map Editor, open the given map and quickly save. This will make the knight Lord Haart unavailable and Sir Mullich available again
* In Restoration of Erathia, Lord Haart is only available as a knight.
* In Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death, Lord Haart is usually only available as a death knight and his place as a knight is taken by Sir Mullich.
* In Horn of the Abyss, Lord Haart is available as a knight and replaces Sir Mullich by default (Lord Haart the Death Knight is renamed to Haart Lich).

Map editor
hota
The map editor has a bit of strange behavior in regards to the bit that controls whether or not the knight Lord Haart is allowed on a map. The game uses an array of bytes to store whether or not each hero is allowed on a map. The first bit of the first byte (bit 0) is Orrin the Knight and the last used bit (fourth bit or bit 3) of the last byte is Xeron the Demoniac. The bit that pertains to the knight Lord Haart is the fifth bit (bit 4) of the first byte. This bit is not editable in the heroes tab of the map specifications. There is no checkbox for it. However, if the heroes tab is clicked in the map specifications, followed by the OK button, his bit is turned on. To turn it off again, the map needs to be unloaded and then reloaded. This can be achieved by exiting the map editor, creating a new blank map (does not need to be saved), or by opening any other map and then immediately re-opening the map. After the bit has been cleared, it will remain off until the heroes tab is clicked again (followed by the OK button). If the bit has been turned on, Lord Haart will replace Sir Mullich in the starting heroes selection (both heroes are still available in the tavern). Even if his bit is turned on, Lord Haart cannot be placed as a wandering hero or in a prison using the map editor. Nor is it possible to change his properties as he does not appear in the heroes tab.

Specialty
In Horn of the Abyss, Lord Haart is available as a knight (and replaces Sir Mullich by default). Lord Haart the Death Knight was renamed to Haart Lich.

In order for Haart Lich to be used in the map editor, he has to be enabled in the map specifications.
