It is not essential to upgrade magi early in the game. However, the upgraded Mage Tower only cost 5 {{W}} and 2000 {{G}}. Considering that it gives five more hit points, speed seven and no obstacle penalty, it is more than affordable. The main downside of the magi is, that [[Mage Tower]] has very steep cost.

I noticed that  the reduction of 2 points does not apply to dimension door and town portal spells.

:::Sorry, didn't mean to imply anything about your efforts. I meant that I've edited lots of spells & most Tower units & nothing happened, but when I've put a wall of knowledge (my reference jokes are terrible, I know) on Mage & Archmage, boom, I get applauded. Kinda surprising, as they're about most straightforward Tower troops, not really impressive or gimmicky, and all their abilities are passive, so anyone could just eyeball their stats and figure out how to use them.
