By default, {{hc}} is not fully compatible with HD Mod. However, a fanmade project exists that resolves this issue. The user must have {{hommcomplete}} and '''all 8 {{hc}} games''' installed (either original NWC copies or bought from GOG) and it comes with a specific version of HD Mod that has been tweaked specifically for the games to run smoothly; it is not advised to update this.

Before downloading the project, it is advised to create a new clean installation of Heroes III, as the game will add many new files to the install destination. Also, ensure the language of the game is the same as that of the program downloaded. When the program is downloaded and then run, the user will be prompted to choose their type of Heroes Chronicles installation, after which the program will automatically detect the games' installation paths. Then, the user must select their new install of Heroes III, and the program will finish installing after a language choice prompt.
