Gunslingers and Bounty Hunters are the level 6 creatures of Factory. They are recruited from the Watchtower.


"Burton now smelled of money, and that smell always attracts those who want to appropriate it, as well as those who are willing, for a fee, to discourage the former. Interestingly enough, the majority of both were of the same pedigree: pirates, that is. Not all of those who used to have dealings with the Burton craftsmen succumbed to Dargem's entreaties to come and take what they needed by force. The more staid ones saw the benefit of going into the rapidly growing town’s service. Furthermore, they were promised the most advanced and powerful weapons crafted in Burton's workshops, and that, of course, was a very good incentive.

The townspeople looked askance at those morose men; the mercenaries, equally effective on land and sea, were mostly employed as bounty hunters. Their arms of choice were arquebuses of enormous caliber and very complicated design. One look was enough to see how much care the gunslingers had for the tools of their trade; their brass and steel parts were buffed to a shine and glistened in the sun like jewelry, and hardwood stocks were polished and varnished. Their cloaks bulged suspiciously at the waist; hiding underneath were not crude pistols like those used by pirates, but things just as sophisticated and expensive as their arquebuses. Rumor had it that those mysterious weapons had already made countless Dargem's henchmen take dirt naps; a well-trained and disciplined gunslinger always ended up being faster than an ever-drunken pirate and his smooth-bore pocket artillery, however proud a sea dog the latter was."

Special Ability: Preemptive Shot[edit | hide]

Preemptive Shot triggers when the Gunslinger/Bounty Hunter is targeted by a ranged attack in combat, shooting their attacker with a ranged shot before the enemy has a chance to fire. There is a possibility that the whole attacking stack is killed by Preemptive Shot, therefore dealing no damage. Gunslingers can only do this once per round, while Bounty Hunters can do this an unlimited number of times. Preemptive Shot deals the same damage as a normal attack and consumes 1 shot.

Preemptive Shot works against all ranged shots, except ranged AoE attacks: Liches' Death Clouds and Magogs' Fireball Attacks, even if they target Gunslingers or Bounty Hunters as a central hex. It also does not activate against the ranged attacking War Machines, the Ballista and Cannon.

Preemptive Shot does not trigger if the Gunslinger or Bounty Hunter is prevented from performing a ranged attack, such as if it is under the effect of the Forgetfulness spell or there is an enemy unit adjacent to it and the hero does not have the Bow of the Sharpshooter equipped.

Gunslingers and Bounty Hunters are quintessential glass cannons. They deal incredible damage and have good speed for a ranged unit, but have the lowest HP for a town tier 6, with 25 less than their closest competition. Their Preemptive Shot can help defend them against enemy shooters, but they will quickly fall to Arrow towers and spells. They benefit greatly from Bless and Haste to make the most of their offensive punch.

A stack of Gunslingers or Bounty Hunters can be used to easily clear ranged wandering monsters. Monsters will usually avoid shooting them, especially if the Preemptive Shot would kill them. If you have no other creatures to shoot, they will often walk or cast spells instead of shooting, making them very easy to pick off. Note that this will not work against Liches and Magogs, which are smart enough to know that Preemptive Shot does not work against them.
