The spell destroys (sacrifices) the target living troop in order to resurrect creatures of another stack back to life. The other stack must be receptive to the Resurrection spell. A sacrificed stack leaves an empty hex on the battlefield without anything to be resurrected or summoned as Demons, i.e. without leaving a corpse for any uses.
Creatures immune to Sacrifice (or resurrection via Sacrifice):
- Undead
- Golems
- Elementals
- Mechanicals

Stone and Obsidian Gargoyles
Gold Dragon *can be sacrificed but not resurrected NOTE: In HotA
, Gold Dragons can be resurrected with Sacrifice as both parts of the spell are now considered level 5.

Typically, it is better to sacrifice a troop with a greater number of creatures than a troop with the same total health but fewer units.
